Karnataka Government Partners with Anthropic to Drive Public Sector Modernisation and Workforce Skilling

In a move to incorporate modern technology into public administration, the Karnataka government has announced a partnership with US-based tech firm Anthropic. Priyank Kharge, Minister for Information Technology and Home Affairs, confirmed the development following a meeting with company executives at their Bengaluru office.

As part of the initiative, the state is setting up two dedicated joint working groups to identify key functional use cases across departments:

Centre for E-Governance: The first working group will focus on enhancing citizen-facing digital services. Key objectives include translating official platforms into regional languages to broaden accessibility, simplifying administrative forms, and parsing large government datasets to speed up public processing times.

Home Department:
The second working group will operate within law enforcement and public safety operations. It aims to streamline case filing systems, reduce administrative backlogs, and organize internal department workflows.

Expanding Technical Education and Workforce Credentials
Beyond internal departmental improvements, the collaboration emphasizes skill development across the state’s technical workforce. The government plans to roll out official Claude certification programs across state universities, technical institutions, and enterprise environments.

This framework is designed to provide local developers, research groups, and Bengaluru’s startup ecosystem with direct access to modern software tools. By offering recognized credentials, the state aims to bridge the gap between academic training and industry requirements.

Integration with Broader Digital Policy
This initiative aligns with Karnataka’s long-term digital strategy, which includes plans for a government-led, public-private technical university. The proposed campus is structured to bring in private technology firms to assist with funding, curriculum design, and research initiatives.

If the initial working groups produce measurable improvements in administrative turnarounds and public service delivery over the coming months, Karnataka’s structured implementation model could serve as a reference point for public sector technology deployment across other state governments.
