Previews traditionally go live on YouTube. But on Netflix? Kind of weird, right! It has been announced that Netflix and Rockstar Games are teaming up for a preview of Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, dropping globally on 27 August, 2026.
While this partnership might seem weird at first, Netflix has had a lucrative relationship with Rockstar Games through its Netflix Game division, launching popular mobile ports of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and Red Dead Redemption. But pivoting this to hosting a video preview is the first time ever.
“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first,” says Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction Series. “It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”
Set in the sprawling, satirical state of Leonida, GTA VI follows the dual protagonists Jason and Lucia. When an easy score goes sideways, the pair finds themselves tangled in a high-stakes criminal conspiracy, forced to rely on each other if they hope to survive.
GTA VI is set to arrive in PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, this November 19. This early-access preview strategy will likely net massive viewership for Netflix while offering fans a long-awaited extended look at gameplay ahead of the game’s official autumn release.
