As 5G networks mature in India, the rules for using Unlimited 5G data are changing. If you regularly tether your laptop, tablet, or smart TV to your phone, a recent policy shift directly affects how you stay connected.

Airtel’s Updated Terms
Airtel has officially updated the fine print on its website regarding its Unlimited 5G Data offer. The new terms state that the unlimited 5G data pool is strictly for personal, on-device use on the smartphone itself.
If you turn on your Airtel mobile hotspot, the connected devices will not draw from the unlimited 5G bucket. Instead, that data usage will be deducted directly from your plan’s standard daily 4G data allowance (like your usual 1.5GB or 2GB daily quota). Once that daily limit runs out, the hotspot internet will slow down or stop completely, even if your phone still has fast, active 5G. Also, Airtel enforces a 300GB monthly cap on the phone’s own 5G usage. Whereas,
Jio’s Strategy
In contrast, Reliance Jio has kept its original data structure intact and has not introduced any restrictions on hotspot sharing. As long as you are on an eligible plan (typically ₹349 or above) and inside a True 5G zone, you can share your connection freely. The data used by external connected devices will not affect your daily quota, and Jio does not enforce a rigid monthly data cap on its mobile 5G plans.
